Gareth Rhodes is an attorney and advisor with expertise in financial services, who has served in senior legal and regulatory positions in New York State government and the private sector. Gareth currently serves as a legal counsel and regulatory advisor. He is also an adjunct professor at CUNY. Gareth previously served as Deputy Superintendent & Special Counsel at the New York State Dept. of Financial Services (NYDFS), the state’s primary financial services regulator with supervisory authority over entities with combined assets of $8.4 trillion. Prior, Gareth served as Director of Regulatory Affairs & Public Policy at a series D fintech startup where he provided legal expertise and strategic advice on key regulatory matters and managed numerous engagements with federal banking regulators as well as with members of Congress and committee staff. He has also worked in private practice at a New York City law firm. He holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School and a B.A. from CUNY City College.
